Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
